This is the cover of Vic’s 1997 CD released with the Planete Folle Band. The repertoire at the Blue Crab will be a mix of C/Z and original rock. Vic recently made a 60 second Delaware Coastal Zone Act Preservation promo video that recycled the 1985 45 rpm song titled “Good Time Delaware” verse about that very matter. Vic Sadot Releases 4th CD on CD Baby

“Truth Troubadour” is the title of Vic Sadot’s latest CD with 18 songs. Truth Troubadour is the most acoustic and reflective CD of the 4 CD’s that he has posted since first teaming with DiscMakers and CD Baby in 1997. Seventeen of the 18 songs on Truth Troubadour are duos with Vic on guitar and vocals, and some piano accordion on several songs. Eric Golub contributes his formidable talents on various stringed instruments: viola, violin, and 2 ukuleles. It’s a mix of broadside ballads and sweet love songs. Truth Troubadour was published to CD Baby on Dec 2, 2016.

The first press announcement was at VicSadot.com calling for reviews!

“Truth Troubadour CD Is Ready For Review!”

Left My Mind is the lead-off song and the only rocker on the CD. Like Lori, a gentle poetic love song, Left My Mind was written by Joe Sadot, who passed in 1978 at age 26. Left My Mind was recorded in Delaware with Rob Sadot, Dean Banks, and Rob Hunter at Rob’s Tune Room Studios. Everything else was recorded at Ancient Owl Audio (formerly Robot Envy Studio) with Sammy Fielding doing all of the sound recording and mixing work in Berkeley, CA. Here we have Rob Sadot recording “Full Spectrum Dominance” in Berkeley.

The 18 songs cover many topics and emotions. The reflective love songs are titled In the Harbor of Love, Lori, and Dearest Lady. The original broadside ballad topical songs are well-researched on timely topics, such as Full Spectrum Dominance, An Act of State: The Execution of Martin Luther King, Selling Futures, Courage To Resist – Free Chelsea Manning, The Kidnapping Coup (Haiti 2004), and No Nuke Blues Fukushima Update.

Full Spectrum Dominance is of those songs that may take on greater significance and meaning as time goes by. The term is used by the US military and political sectors in reference to their goal of global hegemony on land, air, sea, outerspace, and cyberspace.

The line that says, “Beware of those who joke about sending in the drones!” is a reference to President Obama’s joke at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, May 1, 2010. It was as callous and crude as President Bush’s joke skit at the same dinner during his administration when he was joking about looking for “weapons of mass destruction” in the country he massively destroyed for being under suspicion of having them, Iraq.

Psychopaths in powerful positions seem to not have the empathic abilities that normal people have in society. Michael Moore reported on it here: Obama Jokes About Killing Jonas Brothers With Predator Drones (00:29) mmflint channel“The Jonas Brothers are here. (Applause.) They’re out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans. But, boys, don’t get any ideas. (Laughter.) I have two words for you, predator drones. (Laughter) You will never see it coming. (Laughter.) You think I’m joking. (Laughter.)

This song was written by Vic Sadot for the 4-10-11 visit of Bruce Gagnon to speak at Fellowship Hall in Berkeley, CA. Bruce is the founder of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. The line-up for this October 2012 session was Vic Sadot on vocals and acoustic guitar, Rob Sadot on electric guitar, and Eric Golub is on violin. “Full Spectrum Dominance makes us all the “enemy”!

Selling Futures (4:32) Vic Sadot & Eric Golub on Truth Troubadour CD at CD Baby YouTube Channel. Published on Dec 11, 2016 – Provided to YouTube by CDBaby.

“We’ve got socialism for the rich; competition for the rest…

What kind of social system leaves so many dispossessed? …

If we should ever take it in our hearts to share this great Land of the Free,

It would be like Woody Guthrie said: This land was made for you and me!”

See Woody Guthrie Center to learn more about his legacy in American folk music.

The Kidnapping Coup is a broadside ballad that tells the story of the US military intervention in Haiti in 2004 to overthrow the elected government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide and the Lavalas Party. He and his wife were actually blindfolded and taken to Africa on a US military jet!

Vic chose some great songs to cover too: Changes and United Fruit (Company) by Phil Ochs, Working Class Hero by John Lennon, Masters of War by Bob Dylan, and Fayette County Snow by Greg DeCowsky. Click on the titles or on the photos below to hear these cover songs on the CD.

The Fog Watch takes you back into time before we had paved roads and it took farmers an over-night trek to deliver their harvest to the nearest local marketplace. That song was adapted from a poem by Vic’s Uncle George Reuter.

Phil Ochs 1973 Interview Audio to Video Project Gets Promoted at Celebrating Phil Ochs

New Truth Troubadour YouTube Channel post gets promoted by webmaster Shannon Hammock at the new web site to celebrate Phil Ochs’ upcoming 75th birthday on Dec 19, 2015.

Celebrating Phil Ochs Blog 8-08-17: New Phil Ochs Interview From 1973 Released To Celebrate His 75th Birthday. Founded by Shannon Hammock with a companion page at Facebook.

SUMMARY OF CONTENT: This interview took place in Washington, DC on WGTB Radio with Rich Lang, Host of Interface, a WGTB Public Affairs Program; Vic Sadot, Interviewer; Sound Engineer: Skip Pizzi. (Total time interview: 28 min, 54 sec)
Rich Lang announces “Interface” show and introduces Phil Ochs and Vic Sadot. Vic explains that Phil is in DC for a week long engagement at The Cellar Door. He then asks Phil about Watergate and what the Senate and the press are doing. Phil talks about “the Watergate conspiracy”, the possibility of impeachment of President Richard Nixon; Rich asks Phil what about Vice President Spiro Agnew; Nixon in the polls, the significance of Attorney General John Mitchell admitting to breaking the law. Phil expresses surprise that Judge Sirica pursued the Watergate case thus far, talks of the lack of character of Eliot Richardson, quotes John Lennon’s song, Working Class Hero, refers to “crooks” and “creeps” (Committee to Re-Elect the President), mentions FBI Director L. Patrick Gray admitting to having destroyed evidence, refers to the break-in to the office of Pentagon whistle-blower Daniel Ellsberg. Phil talks about his appearance on a TV show called “Panorama” the day before and what members of the international press, who were also on that show, were saying about the “Nixon scandal”. Phil comments on the superior nobility and utility of a parliamentary vote of no confidence compared to the impeachment process offered in the US Constitution.

Phil Ochs sings Here’s to the State of Richard Nixon, an update of a song he had previously written and released as Here’s to the State of Mississippi. Only Lyrics in white text on black background during the song segment.

Vic Sadot asks Phil Ochs about his travels in recent years. Phil covers the globe with his commentary on Vietnam and Cambodia, and his report on his most recent travels to Chile, Argentina, Peru, Uruguay, Bolivia, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, Thailand, the Phillipines, “and Philadelphia”. Phil describes the struggle going on in Chile. Salvador Allende, a socialist who nationalized the copper mines, a great national asset of Chile, that had come to be owned by ITT Anaconda. This interview is in May 1973, 4 months before the coup by General Pinochet, when ITT and CIA activities against the Chilean government are being discussed. The coup came on September 11, 1973. Phil cites the assassination of the head of the Chilean Armed Forces (General René Schneider) as a “false flag” operation to make it seem like the newly elected socialist government was attacking the Chilean military. Phil talks about the movie “State of Siege” and the nature of the movement in South America. He describes the tactics of the Tupamaros in Uruguay, and tells the story of being at a university in Uruguay when it was surrounded by the army and shots were exchanged. Phil tells about being tracked and interfered with by Interpol and being taken to a prison. We discuss the role of universities in South America. He says that folk singers make the juke box but it is still mostly romantic subjects rather than political. Phil talks about the CIA financing of a spiritual movement in Chile to drain youth from the revolutionary political movement in Chile. (There may have been more in this interview, but it appears that WGTB’s reel to reel tape ran out here.)
