Vic Sadot Releases 4th CD on CD Baby

“Truth Troubadour” is the title of Vic Sadot’s latest CD with 18 songs. Truth Troubadour is the most acoustic and reflective CD of the 4 CD’s that he has posted since first teaming with DiscMakers and CD Baby in 1997. Seventeen of the 18 songs on Truth Troubadour are duos with Vic on guitar and vocals, and some piano accordion on several songs. Eric Golub contributes his formidable talents on various stringed instruments: viola, violin, and 2 ukuleles. It’s a mix of broadside ballads and sweet love songs. Truth Troubadour was published to CD Baby on Dec 2, 2016.

The first press announcement was at VicSadot.com calling for reviews!

“Truth Troubadour CD Is Ready For Review!”

Left My Mind is the lead-off song and the only rocker on the CD. Like Lori, a gentle poetic love song, Left My Mind was written by Joe Sadot, who passed in 1978 at age 26. Left My Mind was recorded in Delaware with Rob Sadot, Dean Banks, and Rob Hunter at Rob’s Tune Room Studios. Everything else was recorded at Ancient Owl Audio (formerly Robot Envy Studio) with Sammy Fielding doing all of the sound recording and mixing work in Berkeley, CA. Here we have Rob Sadot recording “Full Spectrum Dominance” in Berkeley.

The 18 songs cover many topics and emotions. The reflective love songs are titled In the Harbor of Love, Lori, and Dearest Lady. The original broadside ballad topical songs are well-researched on timely topics, such as Full Spectrum Dominance, An Act of State: The Execution of Martin Luther King, Selling Futures, Courage To Resist – Free Chelsea Manning, The Kidnapping Coup (Haiti 2004), and No Nuke Blues Fukushima Update.

Full Spectrum Dominance is of those songs that may take on greater significance and meaning as time goes by. The term is used by the US military and political sectors in reference to their goal of global hegemony on land, air, sea, outerspace, and cyberspace.

The line that says, “Beware of those who joke about sending in the drones!” is a reference to President Obama’s joke at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, May 1, 2010. It was as callous and crude as President Bush’s joke skit at the same dinner during his administration when he was joking about looking for “weapons of mass destruction” in the country he massively destroyed for being under suspicion of having them, Iraq.

Psychopaths in powerful positions seem to not have the empathic abilities that normal people have in society. Michael Moore reported on it here: Obama Jokes About Killing Jonas Brothers With Predator Drones (00:29) mmflint channel“The Jonas Brothers are here. (Applause.) They’re out there somewhere. Sasha and Malia are huge fans. But, boys, don’t get any ideas. (Laughter.) I have two words for you, predator drones. (Laughter) You will never see it coming. (Laughter.) You think I’m joking. (Laughter.)

This song was written by Vic Sadot for the 4-10-11 visit of Bruce Gagnon to speak at Fellowship Hall in Berkeley, CA. Bruce is the founder of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. The line-up for this October 2012 session was Vic Sadot on vocals and acoustic guitar, Rob Sadot on electric guitar, and Eric Golub is on violin. “Full Spectrum Dominance makes us all the “enemy”!

Selling Futures (4:32) Vic Sadot & Eric Golub on Truth Troubadour CD at CD Baby YouTube Channel. Published on Dec 11, 2016 – Provided to YouTube by CDBaby.

“We’ve got socialism for the rich; competition for the rest…

What kind of social system leaves so many dispossessed? …

If we should ever take it in our hearts to share this great Land of the Free,

It would be like Woody Guthrie said: This land was made for you and me!”

See Woody Guthrie Center to learn more about his legacy in American folk music.

The Kidnapping Coup is a broadside ballad that tells the story of the US military intervention in Haiti in 2004 to overthrow the elected government of Jean-Bertrand Aristide and the Lavalas Party. He and his wife were actually blindfolded and taken to Africa on a US military jet!

Vic chose some great songs to cover too: Changes and United Fruit (Company) by Phil Ochs, Working Class Hero by John Lennon, Masters of War by Bob Dylan, and Fayette County Snow by Greg DeCowsky. Click on the titles or on the photos below to hear these cover songs on the CD.

The Fog Watch takes you back into time before we had paved roads and it took farmers an over-night trek to deliver their harvest to the nearest local marketplace. That song was adapted from a poem by Vic’s Uncle George Reuter.

Featured Poetry Videos at TRUTH & LOVE POETRY VIDEOS chez Vimeo

We welcome you to explore the poetry videos submitted to “TRUTH & LOVE POETRY VIDEOS” Group. We are based in Berkeley, CA. Our on-line home is at Vimeo. What a surprise it is to get a new poetry video presented to the group every now and then! Today in Berkeley Calling Blog we feature the four most recent poetry videos: (1) “Happy Dancing Energies” from spacey (poem by Ava Bird); (2) Imitation: “Edgar Allan Poe Video Poem” from Mark “Iron Strike” Holmberg; (3) “Nature Moments: The Ocean” from Microdac; and (4) Arrival (Video Poem) (2:26) from Athina Souli and her class project team in Greece. We hope that you enjoy these poems. If you really like one or all of these poetry videos, then we hope that you will share them with others!

Vimeo is a quality site for videos of all kinds. It is noted for a distinguished level of composition and artistic sensibility. At this point in time, August 8, 2015, I have posted 17 of my own music videos at Vimeo as “Vic Sadot Broadside Balladeer”. Since I had a couple of videos that were from poetry set to music, I decided to start an open submissions Group for people using video to express poems. I named it “TRUTH & LOVE POETRY VIDEOS”. Then I forgot about it for a couple of weeks. Some email notices came to me saying that people had contributed poems. We now have 36 videos and 23 members in the group with me as the monitor. This is turning out to be an enjoyable adventure that I want to share with you at this time in this Berkeley Calling Blog. Our settings place the latest contributions at the top of the site in chronological order back to the first one placed in the group by yours truly. That was The Fog Watch”, a poem by my uncle George Reuter that I set to music many years ago. My father, Jean-Henri Sadot, was from France, and he loved to write poetry too. Listen to “White Clay Creek”. These poetry videos are the four latest additions to this open participation group on Vimeo. Enjoy!

“Happy Dancing Energies” from spacey was just added on 8-07-15 as an Editor’s Choice. It’s a poem of only 1:11 minute long poem by my friend Ava Bird with really cool graphics and lyrics selected in a mix meant to uplift and inspire. The thumbnail photo is “Laughing Sal”. Click on the screenshot!

Imitation: Edgar Allan Poe Video Poem from Mark “Iron Strike” Holmberg was contributed on 6-16-15 to “TRUTH & LOVE POETRY VIDEOS” channel at Vimeo. Posted notes: “Steve Guynn in a video poem written by Edgar Allan Poe. Shot with a gh4, and a computer 12.5 mm.” A very engaging and effective use of visual effects for a trippy 1:51 minute Edgar Allan Poe poem created by Mark Holmberg. Spooky fun! Click on the screenshot!

Nature Moments: The Ocean (8:43) from Microdac at Vimeo was contributed to “TRUTH & LOVE POETRY VIDEOS” channel at Vimeo on 5-08-15. Posted Notes: A few minutes by the ocean.” Indeed! A Quote from Henry David Thoreau and a few comments by Microdac to the sound and scenes of ocean surf on a sunny tranquil day encourage you to “think for yourself”. Microdoc joined vimeo 8 years ago and lives in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Quote: “I am a retired sailor who love to play golf and to travel to the Caribbean. I love sharing the same space with artists and other creators; people who are spiritual (NOT religious). Sensual people who are never ashamed of their lives or activities.” Indeed, Microdoc covers nature from “Wasp Engineering” to turtles basking in the summer sun to “Image in the Clouds”. Let’s take a walk by the ocean now with Monsieur Microdac. Allons y au bord de la mer! (Let’s go there along the ocean shore!) Click on the screenshot!

Arrival (Video Poem) (2:26) from Athina Souli. This poem was done as a class assignment. Yet it is a class act in terms of composition. I love it! Credits for this first-rate poetry video team! Poem title: “Arrival” by William Carlos Williams; Actors: Elena Masala & Alex Anagnostopoulos; Shot & narrated by Stavros Symeonidis; Written & directed by Athina Souli; Music by Sigur Rós – Í Gær; Course: Directing & editing; Course Instructor: Nikos “Tei” Terzis of Athens, Department of Photography & Audiovisual Arts. ©2015.
