Video Archived Here: USS Liberty Vet and Survivor Don Pageler spoke in Historic Fellowship Hall in Berkeley, CA on June 25, 2016 about the attack on the USS Liberty by Israel on June 8, 1967.
The story was suppressed for many years, and the sailors who survived were forbidden to talk about it. Don received a Purple Heart. But he went through a long period of PTSD, “survivor’s guilt”, and therapy. He is literally a man with a mission to honor his fallen comrades and to remember this tragic history. It was a gripping personal story placed into historical context of the 6 Days war in which Israel did not want its communication intercepted. The Golan Heights were seized from Syria at this time, and the Israeli surprise attack knocked the Egyptians out of the war in short order.
Don Pageler’s powerpoint presentation was video recorded by Vic Sadot and will be edited by Hummux. The Video Link will be placed here within a week or two.
There has been much speculation that the attack may have been a “false flag” attack meant to bring the USA into the war on the side of Israel. Don Pagerler acknowledged that possibility, but stated clearly that his mission was only focused on telling what he had learned and could substantiate. It was his contention that there was no mistake on the part of Israel about the identity of the ship, which flew a huge American flag and was clearly marked and distinguishable from ships of other nations. It was not heavily armed as it was a signals intelligence ship.
What is now known is that President Lyndon Johnson, Sec of State Robert MacNamara, and Admiral John “Jack” McCain ordered the incident to be covered up. In fact, it would not have played well to the American heartland to learn that President Johnson had recalled the fighter jets that responded to the distress call that the USS Liberty crew was able to get out while under attack. Johnson said he did not care if they all died; he did not want to embarrass an ally.
The Kansas native also had speaking engagements on Tuesday, June 28 at Peacock Hall in Rossmoor Walnut Creek, 1001 Golden Rain Rd, Walnut Creek, CA 94595 at 4 pm, and on Wednesday, June 29 at 4:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 72 Kensington Road, San Anselmo, CA 94960. All events are free, but donations may be requested for the venue and for the USS Liberty Vets. For more information see http://HonorLibertyVets.org

Published on May 10, 2016: This is the official donation reel for a full-length feature film on the June 8, 1967 Israeli attack of the USS Liberty, the only major maritime attack not investigated by the U.S. Congress. With your help, after 50 years of near-obscurity, the true story of the attack on the USS Liberty and its aftermath can be told, where 34 U.S. servicemen were viscously murdered and 174 wounded, an over 70% fatality and casualty rate. The main question you should be asking yourself about the Liberty is this: why has this story remained buried for almost half a century and who is behind the plot to keep it under wraps.
